Benchmarking the North American Food Economy
Food is not just essential to human survival; it is also an increasingly noteworthy sector of advanced economies. The food sector is a site of tremendous product and process innovation. It is part of the wider cultural economy, where symbolic value is greater than physical value. It is also an area where economic inequality- so often discussed in the abstract- can clearly be observed.
Creative Industries and the Creative Economy
Seeking to better understand the composition of creative industries and, more broadly, the creative economy.
Creative Rural Economies
This significant study focuses on Eastern Ontario’s position in the Mega Region of Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal, and studies how urban and rural linkages provide for economic growth opportunities.
Global Creativity
Understanding the role of creativity in regional development in Canada, the United States, and around the world.
Happiness & Geography
Examining the role of communities in happiness and well-being. The Institute has amassed large datasets on well-being across U.S. regions, including significant regional data on personality types.
The Idea Factory
Documenting the key factors at work in creative companies and organizations, from workplace design to diversity to talent management.
Innovation and Creative Industries
The Innovation and Creative Industries project explores the creation, commercialization, and diffusion of ideas. Our central objective is to draw economic insights from the creative industries that are broadly applicable to strategy and competition across multiple industries.
Jurisdictional Advantage
Some governance actions impact jurisdictional advantage, while others have little influence. This project aims to distinguish between the two.
Mega-regions
Systemically developing new maps and indicators of global population, economic activity and innovation at the mega-region level.
Music & the Entertainment Economy
While much attention is paid to high-tech industries, we believe the study of entertainment industries also provides insight into what make the idea-driven creative economy tick. This project includes an effort to develop data and research on the organization and geography of the music business in the 20th and 21st centuries. The end result will be a scholarly examination of the economic, geographic, and social history of the popular music industry.
Ontario in the Creative Age
An analysis of the changing economy and workforce of Ontario, commissioned by the Province of Ontario. This visionary report marks the beginning of a dialog with Ontario.
Prosperity in the Creative Age
Building a global set of regional data to help us develop a “global prosperity index”. Our vision of prosperity is built around four factors: traditional economic measures, quality of life aspects, attractiveness of place, and relative position.
Salon Camden@MPI
Salon Camden@MPI focuses on social and political issues relating to prosperity, creativity and economic growth in urban settings.
Strength in Services
Strength in Services is a Toronto-based partnership of the Martin Prosperity Institute, the City of Toronto, the Institute for Competitiveness & Prosperity, and the Intergovernmental Committee for Economic and Labour Force Development.
Toronto 2010 Election Series
The Martin Prosperity Institute partnered with the University of Toronto Cities Centre to develop a series of discussion papers to highlight a variety of issues leading up to the October 2010 Mayoral election.
